Officials warn against leaving kids, pets in cars during heatwave

In the days ahead, Portland could be experiencing the first triple-digit temperatures of the year, and first responders are reminding parents and pet owners to stay vigilant. Within the last five days, two children died after being left in hot cars in Texas and Georgia, bringing the total to seven so far this year.
Amber Rollins, the director of the nonprofit Kids and Car Safety, tells KATU that it’s common for parents to forget their kids are sitting in the backseat.
