After denial, Clackamas County to push for drug deflection program approval

1 min read

Clackamas County officials and lawmakers will ask a state committee to reconsider its denial of nearly $1 million to fund a program that deflects drug users away from the criminal justice system by offering treatment instead of drug charges.

The committee appointed by the state’s Criminal Justice Commission was tasked with approving 28 grant applications for counties that chose to create deflection programs.

On Aug. 1 and Aug. 2, the committee met and approved 23 counties, denying only Clackamas. It will meet again on Wednesday to consider four more counties’ applications.
