Lightning sparks fire on Mt. Hood, helicopter and crews respond.

1 min read

A new fire has started in the Mt. Hood National Forest.

The AlertWest Camera at Timberline Lodge shows a plume of smoke coming from a ridge on the south-southeast side of the mountain.

Flight tracking software shows a helicopter dropping water on the fire. Fire crews are also fighting the blaze on the ground.

The fire appears to be burning about 2 miles east of the intersection of Highway 26 and Highway 35.

Officials with the Mt. Hood National Forest say the fire is estimated at a quarter acre and was started by lightning. Thunderstorms moved through the area Monday morning.
