Stray bullets fly through apartment wall, killing sleeping boy in Gresham, Oregon; No arrests made

The Gresham Police Department said Monday they are still investigating the shooting and stray bullets that went through a wall, killing a 13-year-old boy while he slept and injuring another person Sunday morning.

"Multiple shots went through walls into a neighboring apartment, fatally wounding a sleeping 13-year-old. Another person who was struck by gunfire was transported to a local hospital," said Gresham Police in a press release.

No arrests have been made.

Family members identified the boy as 13-year-old Liam Spahnle-Bailey, describing him as humorous, creative, hard-working, and adventurous.

Liam attended Rowe Middle School and was an avid sports enthusiast, who loved skateboarding and snowboarding.

Liam’s older brother and father spoke with the media at Ed Benedict Skate Park, where Liam loved to spend time. They called on the public to share any information that could help the investigation, and urged those involved in the shooting to come forward.

"You made a mistake – whoever did it – just accept that you made a mistake," said Liam’s older brother, Gordon Mott-Bailey. "Face the consequences for what you’ve done."
