Portland city councilman responds to $1B infrastructure gap report: ‘Let’s change that loophole’

A recent audit by City Auditor Simone Rede has highlighted a pressing need for a strategic and coordinated approach to address Portland’s growing infrastructure crisis.
The report warns of a backlog of urgent and costly needs, with a funding gap already surpassing $1 billion annually.
The audit criticizes the city’s previous form of government, which included Councilman Dan Ryan, for underinvesting in routine and preventative maintenance of aging assets. "This underinvestment has created a backlog of costly and increasingly urgent needs that the City does not have the funding to meet," the report stated.
