Alex Arrell has been a park ranger for 10 years, but he told KATU there have been times when his life was threatened.
Then things changed after he came across Portland Police Sgt. Dan DiMatteo, who was on a hike during his wellness break last year.
That sparked a friendship that turned into partnership.
