Multnomah County and AMR reach agreement on ambulance staffing
2 min read
After more than four months of mediation, Multnomah County and American Medical Response (AMR) have agreed to a 12-month staffing model that would staff some of its ambulances with one paramedic and one EMT.
“I think this mediation process has the best possible outcome in making sure that we have flexibility with our staffing model, we’re holding folks accountable and it’s going to make a material difference in what we’re seeing,” said Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson.
In a Thursday press release, the county and AMR announced they will be testing a "blended, more flexible" staffing model – where 20 advanced life support (ALS) ambulances will be staffed by 2 paramedics, maintaining the County’s previous requirements, while new hybrid ALS ambulances will be staffed by 1 paramedic and 1 EMT, the model AMR has advocated for.
