Oregon Gov. Kotek selects new leader of Public Defense Commission to address public defender crisis
1 min read
Gov. Tina Kotek is addressing the public defender shortage crisis by announcing a new interim executive director of the Oregon Public Defense Commission.
She has chosen Ken Sanchagrin, the executive director of the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission.
"I have a very high opinion of him as a professional," said Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton.
In a press release, her office says by June 1 Sanchagrin will have a timeline for when the public defender crisis in Oregon will end. She also says he will also be developing a plan focused on resolving the crisis in the six counties where it’s the worst.
