Bee-lieve it or not: Swarm turns Hops’ bullpen into a hive of activity during the game

Minor League Baseball is known for its wacky promotions and on-field antics, however, last night in Hillsboro, the pitchers of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ High-A affiliate were sent scrambling when a swarm of honeybees took over their bullpen.
A beekeeper was brought in to remove the swarm and move it to a safer place.
“The Hillsboro bullpen was under siege, an invading force,” said Matt Richert, one of the play-by-play broadcasters for the Hillsboro Hops. “Thousands of bees decided to camp out in the Hillsboro bullpen.”
The beekeeper was able to move the hive into a cardboard box and remove it from the bullpen.
Dan Kovak, the beekeeper, was presented with a team-signed baseball bat.
The Hops lost 8-2 to Spokane, stating, “Got stung.”
