LIVE: Florida attorney Monique Worrell press conference over backlog of cases

Monique Worrell, State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, has scheduled a 2:30 p.m. press conference. It comes following comments from Attorney General James Uthmeier and Governor Ron DeSantis criticizing her office’s latest policy to reject non-arrest cases. Worrell said her office has a backlog of 13,000 cases and not enough prosecutors to go through them.

DeSantis previously suspended Worrell in 2013, claiming she was soft on crime. Andrew Bain was appointed to replace her, but lost to Worrell in the 2025 election.
