President Trump and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele discuss wrongly deported Maryland man

The president of El Salvador Nayib Bukele met with President Donald Trump at the White House Monday morning to discuss the use of a Salvadoran supermax prison for migrants deported from the U.S.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s case was one of the topics discussed.

Abrego Garcia, who was sent to a notorious gang prison in El Salvador, was a citizen of that country and Trump administration officials emphasized that the U.S. has no say in his future.

Bukele, who has been a vital partner for the Trump administration in its deportation efforts, said, “Of course I’m not going to" release him back to U.S. soil.

“The question is preposterous,” Bukele said. “I don’t have the power to return him to the United States.”
