A Christopher, Illinois, firefighter is recovering after a porch collapsed on top of them.

Body camera footage from a Christopher Police officer shows the moment when an explosion at a house caused the porch to collapse onto the firefighter who was standing near the front door.

“We are grateful that no one sustained major injuries,” Christopher Police posted on Facebook. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Christopher firefighter for a fast and speedy recovery, and also with the family that lost their home during this tragedy.”

Camera footage shows people running from the home just after the explosion, only to realize that a firefighter was trapped. Citizens, police, and firefighters quickly ran to the front of the home and lifted the collapsed roof, allowing others to grab the firefighter and pull them to safety.

“We are thankful for all of our firefighters and first responders! They have a very dangerous job, and today highlighted the dangers they face all too often,” Christopher Police said.
