Mars escapes the Kennedy Center | NBC4 Washington

Cars driving past the Kennedy Center on Thursday evening witnessed an unexpected liftoff, after a 30-foot-tall Mars balloon escaped its moorings and rolled from the arts center’s REACH Plaza onto the highway.

The ballon, part of the Kennedy Center’s “Celestial Bodies” exhibit, was quickly retrieved.

Still, we’re sure the incident made for an out-of-this-world story for drivers on the road at the time.
