President Trump: “It’s going very well” when asked about the stock market plunge and his tariffs
President Donald Trump expressed confidence in his newly announced reciprocal tariffs, saying the process is "going very well" and comparing it to a medical operation.
"I think it’s going very well. It was an operation like when a patient gets operated on, and it’s a big thing," Trump said the day after unveiling his tariffs, which are aimed at leveling the playing field between the U.S. and countries it has trade relations with.
He believes the tariffs will yield significant economic benefits for the United States. "The markets are going to boom, the stock is going to boom, the country is going to boom," he predicted. "And the rest of the world wants to see if there is any way they can make a deal."
Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, which involve imposing levies on imports from countries that have higher tariffs on U.S. goods, have sparked both support and criticism. Supporters argue that the move will bring fairness to global trade, while opponents fear it could lead to a trade war and potential economic disruption.
Despite the mixed reactions, Trump appears to remain optimistic about the impact of his economic policy.
