St. Johns neighborhood holds rally to preserve community center

To many St. Johns residents like Jennifer Evans, rallying around the community center is not just about saving a community resource, it’s about preserving a sanctuary.

Since the city faces almost $100 million in budget cuts, all city departments have had to propose potential budget cuts, which could include the St. Johns Community Center.

The potential loss of the area is heartbreaking for the St. Johns community, in which about 14% of people are living below the poverty line. Some have to work more than one job and need the center for child care.
