Quick-thinking 12-year-old escapes rip current during spring break trip to Seaside, Oregon

2 min read

A young girl’s knowledge and quick thinking may have saved her life after being swept out to sea by a rip current on the Oregon Coast over the weekend.

The girl was rescued off the coast of Seaside, Ore., over the weekend but not before she spent half an hour in the water. Rescuers found the 12-year-old on the beach after she was washed out in the current.

KATU News spoke to the girl’s grandmother about the ordeal. She did not want to be identified or go on camera because she is protecting her granddaughter’s privacy. She said her granddaughter is still pretty traumatized by the whole ordeal.
