Teen shot in the head near Portland park still in critical condition, 15-year-old turns himself in

As 16-year-old Elliott Beck fights for his life in the hospital another teen has turned himself in and is accused of pulling the trigger in a shooting that took place early Sunday morning at Cathedral Park.

Youth advocates and leaders in the black community say the 15-year-old suspect in the case came to them to ask for support in going to police with his confession.

"He spoke with us, we walked him down to the Justice Center, sat with the officers down there and the detectives, and just spoke about where his heart was. His heart was real sorrowful about what had happened," said Michael Johnson a minister and director of Take Three Outreach a non profit that advocates against gun and gang violence.

On Friday a juvenile justice court judge the teen should be held without bail.

In the meantime Beck’s family says there have been some positive signs in his recovery but he remains in critical condition with a bullet still lodged in his brain at Randall’s Children’s Hospital.

"He’s responding thumbs up or thumbs down to kind of simple commands," said Jennifer Hooford a clock family friend of the Becks. "He has a bit of a fever from the ventilator and some bit of a lung infection. But all the indications are really good."
