Oregon governor to challenge Trump’s election order, citing state voting control
1 min read
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that would implement several significant changes to the federal election process.
The order mandates that voters provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. Acceptable documents include passports, government-issued IDs, and birth certificates.
Additionally, the order alters the deadline for counting ballots, requiring all mail-in and absentee ballots to be received by Election Day. This marks a shift from current practices in states like Oregon, where mail-in ballots can be counted if postmarked by Election Day and received within seven days thereafter.
