Senator quotes Elon Musk claim that air traffic control system is ‘months to catastrophic failure’

Transportation officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) testified on Capitol Hill Thursday morning regarding the deadly midair collision over the Potomac River

During Thursday’s NTSB/FAA hearing, Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts pressed officials on quotes from Elon Musk, who claimed that the air traffic control system is "months to catastrophic failure."

"FAA assessment is single digit months to catastrophic failure, putting air traffic safety at serious risk. The situation is extremely dire," Sen. Markey said.

Sen. Markey has been critical of Musk and his DOGE team as they work their way through federal departments and budgets making cuts.
