President Trump announces 25% auto industry tariffs ahead of April ‘Liberation Day’ deadline

On Wednesday President Donald Trump announced that he is placing 25% tariffs on auto imports, saying that this move will promote domestic manufacturing.
The move comes ahead of April 2nd, which Trump has dubbed “Liberation Day.” On that day, Trump said he plans to roll out reciprocal tariffs to equal out trade imbalances between the U.S. and other foreign nations. The auto tariffs will also take effect on this day.
