Man charged with manslaughter in teen’s death admitted to drinking, driving 100 mph

Court documents released Tuesday claim that when interviewed by police, 33-year-old Christopher Atkinson admitted to drinking alcohol with three teens and a 12-year-old girl before driving them around in his car while doubling the speed limit.
On Monday, a judge denied Atkinson bail, saying he would pose a danger to the community. He faces charges for manslaughter, assault (related to the injured teens), reckless driving and providing alcohol to minors.
At around 9:50 pm on Sunday, Atkinson’s car, described in the court document as a white Mercedes sedan, veered off the road on the 17000 block of Fern Ridge Road, flipped upside-down and crashed into trees, killing 16-year-old Zolayha Johnson and severely injuring Johnson’s 12-year-old sister, Zamora Miller.
