Owner of North Portland mini-mart accused of drug dealing allowed to open store

A North Portland mini-mart owner is allowed to be open, with the one exception — he’s not allowed to sell alcohol.

According to the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission, 43-year-old Donald Sharma has had his license to sell alcohol suspended. On Friday, the OLCC said in a statement that Sharma must “not exercise any license privileges at the licensed premises as continued operation represents a serious danger to public health and safety.”

"They found drug paraphernalia on the premises and things like that,” a spokesperson for the OLCC said during an interview with KATU News. “And so, in response to that, and I should also say there were prior complaints about some of the things that behavior that was associated with it may or may not have been associated with the store."

On Monday, KATU News visited the Stop N Go Mini Mart and found the entire store was closed.

Earlier this month, a search of Sharma’s mini-mart on Williams Avenue across the Street from Dawson Park revealed he had allegedly been leading a full-fledged drug dealing operation from inside the store. Police say the bust did, in fact, come as the result of numerous tips they started to receive about a year ago regarding alleged drug dealing activities coming from within the store. Sharma is now facing several drug charges.
