Portland’s cherry blossoms near peak bloom, drawing crowds to the waterfront

People will soon be flocking to Portland’s waterfront to witness the beauty of the cherry blossom trees.

But how close are we to peak bloom? And why are the trees even here in the first place?

The executive director of the Japanese American Museum of Oregon, Hanako Wakatski-Chong, joined ARC PDX on Friday to talk about Portland’s beloved cherry blossom trees, their history, and what visitors need to know before heading to the waterfront to see them.
