Right to Play Act aims to lift IHSA restrictions on high school athletes in club sports

1 min read

Benet Academy freshman Keira Stone has played soccer since she was 3 years old. Stone—who also plays club soccer—just started her first high school season, but IHSA rules are limiting opportunities for her to pursue a college scholarship playing the sport.

Under current IHSA rules, student-athletes can’t play their sport on a club or travel team during the high school season, leading to Stone’s club team forfeiting a national tournament.

WGN’s Dana Rebik reports on the story.
