Multnomah County likely to pass $15M in Metro tax revenue to Portland for Homeless Services

Multnomah County commissioners are set to vote on a resolution that would promise the city of Portland $15 million in Supportive Housing Service funds that Metro is likely to award the County.
The money will come from a $30 million pot of leftover administrative funds that Metro has at its disposal from its tax on high income earners for homeless services.
The county’s Homeless Services Department (formerly Joint Office of Homeless Services) is facing a budget deficit of around $104 million as a result of previous years metro tax surplus drying up, along with a lower than expected current Metro tax revenue.
Last month, County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson penned a letter to Metro Council asking it to make up part of the budget deficit with the full $30 million in left-over administrative funds. She has also asked Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek to foot the rest of the deficit. Vega Pederson announced those requests to the media during a press conference where she said some shelters could close without those supports from Kotek and Metro.
