2 min read
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a man clinging to a piling under the New Youngs Bay Bridge near Astoria last Thursday, the agency said in a post on X on Monday.
The bridge is part of Highway 101 and goes over Youngs Bay and connects the Astoria and Warrenton areas.
The crew was already in the air when it received the call for help from the Astoria Police Department. It was on scene within 30 minutes.
The crew deployed its swimmer who helped the man into a basket. The crew then hoisted the man onto the bridge where police officers and medics were waiting.
