Vancouver clears homeless camp along Mill Plain sound wall over safety concerns

The City of Vancouver has cleared an out-of-control homeless encampment near a Vancouver neighborhood. The encampment had been growing for months along the Mill Plain “sound wall.” According to the City of Vancouver, over the last six months, the Vancouver Housing Authority and Council for the Homeless worked together to help the people living along the wall.
"It’s much better and safer, just the sanity, because we were going to move her out,” one couple said of their 96-year-old mother. “Because of the situation, we were going to put up a fence, but we never did that either. Luckily, they are going, and if they stay going, this is good."
But despite the good news of having some peace along the wall, neighbors also recognize this is bittersweet, especially because, at the end of the day, they are all people. Some were as old as 60 years old, according to the city.
