In Chicago and the Midwest, eating paczki is a time-honored tradition on Fat Tuesday. The Polish deep-fried pastry has the consistency similar to a plush doughnut crossed with brioche, often filled with fruit preserve or custard. Made with flour, eggs, milk, butter, sugar and vanilla, the sweet treat is topped off with a glaze and/or powdered sugar.
