Rip City Remix celebrates culture with Hispanic and Latin Heritage game
2 min read
Portland’s newest basketball team, the Rip City Remix, turned up the energy on and off the court on Sunday with their inaugural Hispanic and Latin Heritage Celebration. Although the Remix defeated the Mexico City Capitanes, the game was more than just a showdown—it was a cultural celebration.
"It’s important for us just to highlight the communities that we are surrounded by, one of those being the Latinx and Hispanics and just for us to be able to get back to the community," said Jacqueline Rodríguez, Corporate Partnerships Manager, Rip City Remix.
"We’re giving kids access that normally wouldn’t have the access to play the sport as much or participate in a camp and we’re doing it in an inclusive and empathetic way," said Adrian Romero, Co-founder, Bilingual Basketball, an Oregon-based nonprofit dedicated to making the game more accessible to players of all backgrounds.
