Portland leaders unveil budget cuts, funding plans to address $92M deficit
2 min read
On Friday, Portland city leaders unveiled a detailed look at the pending budget crisis facing city council and the mayor ahead of the upcoming fiscal year that starts in July.
City administrator Michael Jordan and the city’s budget team now project a $92.8 million shortfall in the general fund – down from more than $100 million earlier this year. A first-look at recommendations included about $17 million in cuts across city agencies, excluding public safety staffing, and another $18 million in new funding from interest gathered on PCEF investments.
That leaves about $57 million in cuts for the city council and mayor to find by the end of June if they accept the recommendations from Jordan.
