Vancouver man accused of carving racial slur into neighbor’s car

A Vancouver man is accused of malicious harassment for allegedly etching a racial slur into his neighbor’s vehicle – directing the word at a 9-year-old boy.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, 43-year-old Jason Smith carved a racial slur into his neighbor’s car at the apartment complex they both live in. Smith, who appeared in court on Wednesday, is being charged with one count of malicious harassment.
The incident happened on Feb. 21. Police were able to review the apartment building’s video surveillance and said they identified Smith. Another resident told police before the alleged crime, Smith had gone on a rant about how he “hated” the victim’s 9-year-old boy, who is black.
Smith also allegedly told police he had a “long ongoing dislike” for the woman and her son.
"He has yelled at him for minor things just a kid being a kid," the mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, told KATU. "He has accused him of things that he has not done directly to him. He’s just been very volatile towards him for going on two years now."
