In 2022, WESH spoke to Ingrid Burton Nathan about making history as the first black student to integrate Sanford Middle School in 1964.
Today, reporter Christina Watkins sat down with Burton Nathan to hear about another family member that made history. Her mother, Edna Cross Burton, was part of The 6888th Central Post Directory Battalion. It was the first and only all-Black female unit to be deployed during World War II.
