Portland Timbers start 2025 MLS season with 4-1 loss against Vancouver Whitecaps in Providence Park
2 min read
The Portland Timbers kicked off their new season at Providence Park on a sour note, suffering a 4-1 defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps in their 2025 MLS season opener at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.
Despite having ten players for most of the match, the Timbers managed to score once through Antony, who netted Portland’s lone goal and his first of the season in the 73rd minute.
The match marked a challenging start for the Timbers, who have now conceded nine goals to the Whitecaps in their last two home games.
The game took a dramatic turn early on when Kamal Miller was sent off in the 11th minute after a tackle on a Vancouver attacker just outside the Timbers’ box. While the red card prevented a scoring opportunity for the Whitecaps, it left Portland struggling with a man down.
