New report paints dark picture for Portland’s economy

Cranes soar above Portland. Loud sounds of construction echo through neighborhoods and a state-of-the-art airport. It sure may seem like Portland’s economy is booming, but much of the activity is the leftovers of projects approved around 2017 when Portland ranked number three in national real estate attraction.

However, according to the Urban Land Institute’s latest State of the Economy report, Portland now ranks second-to-last at number 80.
