Multnomah one of 2 counties statewide not charging drug users for unsuccessful deflection

1 min read

Records obtained by KATU News show Multnomah County is one of two counties statewide that does not plan to postpone charges for people caught with drugs and file them at a later date if they do not follow through with a treatment plan.

On Sept 1, when drug possession becomes a crime again in Oregon, users caught with drugs in most counties will be offered deflection as an alternative to charges. If they successfully complete deflection they will not be charged, if they fail most counties say they will face legal consequences.
