New SE Portland village-style shelter to offer wraparound services for 40 adults

As the Portland metro area faces a continued homelessness crisis, Multnomah County unveiled a new tiny home village-style shelter in the Montavilla neighborhood on Wednesday.
Non-profit Straightway Services has piloted the project and will run shelter operations. Local pastor and the non profit’s director, Dwight Minnieweather, said he means to give priority to people living in east county.
"That’s the first priority, Montavilla getting the people that have been here 10 and 15 years off the streets and giving them a place to still be in their community," he said.
Minnieweather said he was on the streets 26 years ago. A few years after becoming clean and sober, he made it his mission to help others do the same.
The new Oak Street Village on 82nd Avenue is slated to open its doors to its first residents in the first few weeks of March. Alongside shelter, Straightway Services will also be providing wraparound supportive services to help people transition from shelter into more stable housing.
