Portland Timbers FC holds ‘Victory Log Blessing’ at World Forestry Center

The Portland Timbers held their annual "Victory Log Blessing" on Sunday. The tradition was made even more special as he team kicks off its 15th MLS season and celebrates its 50th club anniversary.

Since 2009, the Timbers have kicked off the season with a traditional Irish blessing of the victory log. Sunday was no exception, with dozens gathering at the World Forestry Center for the ceremony.

It’s meant to celebrate the start of the season and to ensure a successful season. It also serves a heartfelt tribute to the club’s rich history and the community that supports it.

The Timbers will host Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC for their season-opening match at Providence Park one week from today, February 23.

On Tuesday, the team is expected to learn more about all the new food the Timbers Army can enjoy at Providence Park.
