Portland pausing construction at multi-billion-dollar water filtration site

UPDATE | The city of Portland said Friday it will pause construction at the multi-billion-dollar water filtration site in East Multnomah County – following a January land-use decision from the state’s Land Use Board of Appeals.

A spokesperson for the Portland Water Bureau said it’s unclear how long the pause will last.

The city is under a compliance agreement with the state to have it operational by the end of September 2027. The city must treat water from the Bull Run Watershed for cryptosporidium – a common parasite sometimes found in water.
