The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is urging residents to keep their distance if they see an elk with rope and a buoy tangled in it’s antlers.
ODFW and Oregon State Police are continuing to monitor the elk. Officials say they don’t believe the rope is impacting the bull’s ability to survive as the rope is not around the elk’s neck.
"Based on our initial assessment, the rope and buoy in the elk’s antlers likely came from yard decorations," said Beth Quillian with ODFW. The agency noted that one of the primary causes of elk and deer entanglement is items from residential yards.
