Winter weather poised to make a return to western Oregon, bringing freezing rain and snow

“The east wind will begin to ramp up later today. A lot of cold air could be making its way into the valley,” said Storm Tracker 2 Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby.
The next weather maker is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, but it appears it could be problematic.
“Models are showing not rain coming through, but snow or possibly freezing rain,” Shelby stated. “This would be widespread this time around the valley floor.”
The National Weather Service in Portland says that based on their probability forecasting, the likelihood of freezing rain of .10 of an inch or higher targets portions of the southern Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast Range and the Oregon and southwest Washington Coast. In the Portland metro area, the probability remains slightly above 10 percent.
NWS Portland says the probability of snow in the Portland metro area of an inch or more is just about 20%.
“At this point, we don’t know how much precipitation is coming,” Shelby said. “This is going to be yet another event where we could have both. A lot of us could be affected.”
