Oregon Zoo’s new baby elephant starting to meet other herd members, ‘bonding already’

The Oregon Zoo’s baby elephant is showing off her adorable trumpeting sounds as she greets another member of the Elephant Lands this week, resident Asian elephant Sung-Surin, who also goes by "Shine.

“Each new member is so important — not just to the mom but to everyone in the herd,” said Steve Lefave, who oversees the zoo’s elephant program. “Shine will be an auntie and mentor to this baby, so it’s wonderful to see them bonding already.”
