Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory tariffs of 25% on U.S. goods, despite a clause in Trump’s executive order meant to prevent such actions.

The Wall Street Journal labeled the situation "the dumbest trade war in history."

Congressman Jared Golden, a Democrat from Maine, expressed support for the tariffs, stating they would challenge decades of free trade and globalization that prioritized low prices. "It will help us rewire our economy for production, not just consumption," Golden said.

The tariffs are scheduled to take effect on Tuesday unless changes or concessions are made.

The White House cited Colombia as an example of a country that quickly adapted to avoid the negative impacts of similar tariffs..
