Potential budget cuts threaten to reduce Portland’s public safety workforce and resources

1 min read

Records obtained by KATU Investigates paint a dire picture of possible budget cuts to public safety bureaus in Portland.

The city faces a possible $100-million deficit in the budget that starts this summer.

KATU obtained a document via a records request that shows how deep the cuts could go. Police, fire, and the 911 center say they would have to lay off people—fewer police officers, firefighters, and 911 dispatchers—at a time when the city can hardly keep up with its current workload.
