NTSB Press Conference on the Washington D.C. crash on Thursday, January 30, 2025

Timothy Lilley, the father of a pilot on board the American Airlines flight which collided with a U.S. Army helicopter near Washington, D.C., Wednesday night, said Thursday he suspects the helicopter may have been at fault.

An estimated 67 individuals were involved in the crash, with 64 being on the passenger jet. Authorities said Thursday they do not expect that any of the individuals made it out of the crash alive.

28-year-old Sam Lilley was one of two pilots on the American Airlines flight, his father told Georgia outlet Fox 5 Atlanta. The pilot was reportedly engaged to be married and had ties to the Savannah, Georgia area.
