Chicago’s migrant community is on edge on Friday night following rumors that the ICE agents attempted to enter an elementary school.
The U.S. Secret Service later released a statement confirming that its agents, not ICE, went to the school to investigate a threat against a government official under their protection.
CPS said it turned those agents away, in line with its policies to protect migrant students.
Samantha Smylie State Education Reporter with Chalkbeat Chicago, joined WGN News on Friday afternoon to discuss the district’s immigration and deportation policies.
