What’s next for Trump’s order on birthright citizenship after temporary restraining order won?

A federal judge in Seattle on Thursday ruled in favor of plaintiffs, agreeing to temporarily pause President Donald Trump’s executive order that would have blocked birthright citizenship in cases where parents are non-U.S. citizens.
“Today’s ruling protects the rights of all kids born in Oregon. And it shows that the checks and balances in our system protect everyone’s Constitutional rights, no matter who is in the White House," said Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield in a written statement.
Rayfield joined the federal lawsuit against Trump’s order filed by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown. Brown’s lawsuit was also joined by attorneys general in Arizona and Illinois while a couple dozen more states have filed similar lawsuits in federal court.
The temporary restraining order (TRO) will remain in place during initial briefings. Once it expires, plaintiffs would likely request a preliminary injunction, which would last until the federal court makes a final judgement, which would then likely be appealed to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
