Cascadia quake and tsunami: Redmond may become a central hub for Oregon emergency response

If the Big One hits the Oregon coast — a major earthquake and tsunami along the Cascade Subduction Zone — the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond will be a major logistical hub for emergency operations in Central Oregon.
Redmond Municipal Airport may be a vital airfield for emergency operations, particularly if the Portland, Salem and Eugene airports become unusable.
Beyond that, it’s important that families have a stock of supplies ready for several days. Grocery stores could be out of stock and gas stations may be out of fuel for weeks.
