Banks High School teacher accused of sex abuse released on bail

A Banks High School math teacher and a longtime coach was arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court on two counts of second-degree sex abuse and two counts of luring a minor.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) announced the arrest of 66-year-old Wymon Smith on Tuesday, noting that the school district placed him on leave on Jan. 7, 2025, after the district was informed of the allegations.

Court documents detailed a series of grooming behaviors described to forensic specialists by the alleged victim that allegedly occurred on Jan. 6, 2025.
