Chair lifts at Timberline Lodge close due to wind

Timberline Lodge closed the lifts Thursday due to wind. John Burton at Timberline said it’s something that happens a few times a year.

“There’s two factors. It’s the wind speed and also the wind direction relative to the alignment of the chair lifts," he said. "So it can be windy some days, but if it’s in the appropriate direction where it doesn’t cause danger to the chair swings, no problem. But if it’s in the wrong direction and too windy, it’s a no-go.”

Some people at Timberline on Thursday didn’t realize the lifts were closed until after they arrived.
