WGN’s “Bozo’s Circus” Studio Audience Videoclips from December 25, 1972

1 min read

Edited WGN-TV video of studio audience members at a taping of “Bozo’s Circus” for a 1972 Christmas Day broadcast. According to Rick Klein of FuzzyMemories.TV, the video came from an estate sale of former station engineer Marty Kite. Most of the clips seem to be of Kite’s family members but they also include brief appearances of Bob Bell as Bozo, Roy Brown as Cooky, Ringmaster Ned Locke and musical director Bob Trendler, while the Big Top Band is off camera to make room for snow-covered winter scenery where they’d normally appear. Magician Johnny Thompson also briefly appears as Clod Hopper during the Grand Prize Game clip. The character turned out to be a temporary replacement for Ray Rayner’s Oliver O. Oliver, who left the show a year earlier.
